Cherries !

Like bananas, there are two types of cherries grown around the world: sweet cherries and sour cherries, sweet cherries being the type most eaten around the world as the sour ones are used more for cooking purposes. The sweet cherry originated in the area between the Black and Caspian seas of Asia and it is supposed that from there birds brought the fruit to Europe before any human civilisation. The sour cherry originated in the mountain ranges between northern Iran and Turkey and was brought similarly to Europe as the sweet cherry was. The sweet cherry fruit is produced from a vigorous tree with an erect-pyrimidal canopy shape , reaching upto 50 feet in height, the flowers of this tree are white with long pedicels, 2-5 flowers per cluster blooming from short spurs from the branches. However the sour cherry fruit is produced from a rounder shaped tree ususally kept at 15 feet in height, sour cherries' flowers bloom later than sweet cherries' and are the same in appearance as the sweet cherries flowers.
